An American Story
Stream Rolling Along on Max and Join Me for a Special Zoom Q&A with Bob Costas.
Dear Friend,
Today’s the day!
I'm proud to announce the official release of Rolling Along: An American Story, now streaming on Max.
If you’re not a Max subscriber, you can visit this link to sign up and view the film.
I’ve been working on this project for six years, and from the start, I’ve wanted to inspire conversation and reflection on some of life’s most important themes. I hope people will see a story that’s really about all of us – a story about love of the game of basketball and love of our country; a story of forgiveness and perseverance, triumph and loss, joy and sadness. I’ve tried to make it an honest portrayal of one American's life. I’ve found joy in my work to make this country a better place, and I believe we can all rediscover that same sense of purpose.
Just think back to when you were growing up - what did your parents, your teachers, your coaches tell you? That if you lose, you congratulate your opponent. You act out of honor, not grievance. You know that with humility and hard work, you can achieve excellence. And excellence is what you need to give your family a better life. It's what we need as a country to move forward. The values that have moved America for generations are still here, and they’re still real. We just have to assert them, and celebrate our common humanity.
To start, it may not be a bad idea to remember what made our championship Knicks team so successful years ago:
Take responsibility for yourself.
Respect your fellow human beings.
Disagree with them honestly and civilly.
Enjoy their humanity.
And never look down on people you don’t understand.
If that message of hope and healing resonates with you, I’d be grateful if you could share your enthusiasm for Rolling Along with Max, and with your family and friends through social media and by word of mouth. Your support can make a huge difference.
And if you’d like to talk about Rolling Along with me, you can join me and Bob Costas for a special online event over Zoom on Tuesday, February 13 from 6-7PM EST, where I’ll take questions and share stories with special guests. You can RSVP here after watching the film.
Enjoy the show!

Me: Watched Rolling with Mr. Jim and both of us very moved … tears. Lovely. Powerful. Sweet. 👏🏻 Jim:”My family has always been very impressed with where he has been and now where he might be going.”
It's unlikely you're related to him but my maternal grandfather was Luther D. Bradley, political cartoonist for the Chicago Daily News until he died in 1917. He was a big fan of Teddy Roosevelt, from whom he received two thank-you notes for his supportive cartoons. In honor of Mark Twain's death in 1910, Bradley drew a cartoon depicting Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn "rolling down" the Mississippi River. Steve Rickert '65
